FYI, this is not MY account, but a fellow-member of Grassroots America We the People…enjoy!!!
Dearest Friends,
It is the Monday after 9/12 DC rally. I just wanted to share my experience with you all. As I said, I took my 77 year old mom and Daniel, my 20 year old son. It was one of the most moving things I have ever done in my entire life! If there is another DC march in the future, I STRONGLY URGE you to do whatever it takes to go…you wouldn’t be sorry!
We travelled to DC on Friday and didn’t arrive until 7 pm. We left DC on Saturday, 9/12, at 7:30 pm. So we didn’t get to participate in all of the other activities that went on before and after the rally. We met a sweet young lady at breakfast right before the march who had travelled to DC BY HERSELF from Florida and had stayed in a hostel. She is an Army vet, a police officer, and now works doing investigations for a law firm. She is Jewish, and quite the patriot. I asked her if she would like to walk with us, and so she spent the day with us. She was only one of many, many young adults who marched.
Every age and culture was represented there. The crowd was peaceful, positive, and orderly. There was electricity in the air, and to be honest, I was overwhelmed completely to tears at the beauty of what was happening. People were to meet first at Freedom Plaza, just east of the White House. It got so crowded that the march had to start 1 1/2 hours early. My “posse” followed closely behind a fabulous group of tri-point hat patriots in full historic garb playing drums and the fife. We walked among massive numbers of people down Pennsylvania Ave., trying to get as close to the front as possible so we could get a good spot at the rally on the west lawn of the Capitol.
We got to the Capitol lawn and staked out our spot. We ended up standing for 6 1/2 hours in the same place without sitting once, and without eating or drinking anything, but we didn’t notice, because we were completely focused on listening to many wonderful grassroots speakers. There was a big stage and podium with huge speakers. The crowd was impassioned and bold. We all participated by loudly answering the speakers’ questions, applauding, booing, and singing. As the crowds began to swell, the rally coordinators announced that people had to move off the Mall, as they did not have a permit for the lawn. The people chanted back, “We OWN the Mall!”
The numbers: I want each of you to know that even Fox News “official count” of 60,000 is COMPLETELY WRONG!!! This enrages and frustrates me. I can guarantee that there were AT LEAST 1 MILLION attendees, and probably many more! Daniel said, “Mom, UT football games have 100,000 people, and this is MANY times over that.” There were people jam-packed like sardines as far as the eye could see! People kept pouring down Pennsylvania Ave. all day long. Constitution Ave. was also packed. The entire north, south, and west lawn of the Capitol were completely full, as were ALL of the streets surrounding the Capitol. Pennsylvania Ave. was completely full all the way back to Freedom Plaza, where we started! Don’t believe “official numbers”! We met people from so many different states…even people that flew in from the west coast. A lady said she had met people from Hawaii!
There were so many fantastic signs…some clever, some funny, some heart-wrenching. One of my favorites was a HUGE banner (professionally done) that said, “Bankrupting America one un-read bill at a time.”
At one point in the day, the highways into the capitol were overwhelmed by people trying to get to the rally! My only regret is that we did not get to stay longer, but if the quick trip made it possible for my son to be there, it was worth it! I looked at his face as we marched and listened to the speakers, and he was inspired, impacted, and encouraged. This will be a memory-making and historical experience for him. So many children, babies, youth, truckers, doctors, housewives, grandparents, coal-miners, nurses, teachers, and the list goes on and on…. You would have been awed and inspired! It gave me the courage and motivation to keep fighting…for as many Americans that WERE there, I know deep in my heart that there were countless Americans that wish they could have been!
I saw Louie Gohmert and his family there. They briefly introduced him and Ralph Hall on stage, but he didn’t speak. It was good to see him, though. Senator Jim DeMint and Rep. Mike Pence were the only politicians to speak, but they were fantastic! I would vote for either one of them if they ran for president. I particularly like Jim DeMint from South Carolina…he gets it! He knows that it is THE PEOPLE that will preserve the republic. Although the march and rally is over, I want you to realize that the work has JUST BEGUN! Keep up your vigilance! Keep praying! Keep learning! Keep writing, calling, and informing!
Have a great day…
Lisa
